“INVICTUS” is a short poem by English poet William Ernest Henley. Henley wrote it in 1875, and in 1888 he published it in his first volume of poems, Book of Verses, in the section titled “Life and Death (Echoes)”.

INVICTUS (Poem)

Out of the night that covers me
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance,
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate
I am the captain of my soul.

Technique over Strenght.

The philosophy of “technique over strength” centers on the idea that the proper execution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) techniques can overcome physical attributes like power and size. This principle is deeply rooted in the history of BJJ; it was developed by grandmaster Hélio Gracie, as a way for smaller people to defend themselves against larger opponents.
